5 Books to Finish Before Graduating from High School
High school is a life changing experience no matter how you get through it. Our friends, teachers, activities, and trials shape us into who we will be for a great length in our lives. One way to make sure you are being shaped for the better is through reading better books. Here are some suggestions of some life-shaping books that you should get your hands on and finish before getting your degree!
7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens1. by Sean Covey - This book should be read before you even start high school. The advice, worksheets, and practices offered will help you overcome any obstacle that high school or life throws at you. Knowing how to be successful with adversity requires following the ideas offered by this book. The original 7 Habits by Sean’s father Stephen provides a more in-depth look at the concepts, but I really like this version due to its fun pictures and segways.
“We become what we repeatedly do.”
― Sean Covey, The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens
2. How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster - Reading is fun and fundamental for our livelihood. Knowing how to read quickly and for deeper meaning is a craft that takes practice and knowledge. This book will enrich your process of reading and make you a star in your college level English classes.
“Education is mostly about institutions and getting tickets stamped; learning is what we do for ourselves. When we're lucky, they go together.
If I had to choose, I'd take learning.”
― Thomas C. Foster, How to Read Literature Like a Professor: A Lively and Entertaining Guide to Reading Between the Lines
3. Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill - A simple, yet powerful read. It’s been a best seller for over a century and for good reason. How you think shapes your future, knowing how to practice thinking is something that could be passed over if no one taught you otherwise. This book is free on the internet!
“Set your mind on a definite goal and observe how quickly the world stands aside to let you pass.”
― Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich
4. Animal Farm by George Orwell - Our world is run with the guise of democracy, but Orwell eerily familiar book reminds us that we must always examine the motivations of those who claim to make the rules in our best interest.
“Several of them would have protested if they could have found the right arguments.”
― George Orwell, Animal Farm
